Disaster Averted! For now…
I hate to use a cliché’ like saying it’s a Christmas miracle, but that’s what my friends, colleagues, fellow fans, and even strangers have helped pull off.
Just over a week ago I was left missing a large part of my income when Finlay Publishing, the publishing company I had been doing most of my writing for, issued a statement that it decided that it wasn’t likely going to pay its writer the outstanding money owed for work that had been published.
I was left with a pile of bills stacking up and an eviction notice dated December 25th. Merry Christmas to me.
WRITER IN DIRE NEED!
Dear Friends in the comics, arts and writing industries,
It is with a heavy heart and more than an ounce of desperation that I write these words.
As some of you may know, the world of writing and publishing is fragile, and things beyond your control can tumble down around you in unfortunate ways.
Such an incident is why I write this.
I and some of my fellow Finlay Publishing writers are experiencing one of the worst possible surprises for Christmas.
Sorry folks, the posts meant for the regular Thursday update will not be posted today.
Something has gone wonky with the blog server on our provider's end and I'm posting blind, with no idea if these posts will be visible.
Please join us again next week for our Tuesday update.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Hey all, I have already requested to take part in the event listed below, I encourage anyone out there interested to take part if they can. Although I doubt I’d be able to attend in person, I will be doing a number of Sketch cards.
In all seriousness it’s not often enough that we get a chance to help out in our own way. Even if you can’t make time in your busy schedule to take part, I encourage you to pass this on to any friends or associates who may.
Thanks,
Mike Gagnon
Blue Line is sponsoring a Sketch Card Gallery Exhibit on March 8, 2008 at Comics2Games in Florence, Kentucky. This show is open to all artists. Blue Line will send sketch cards for the artist to do their illustrations and Comics2Games will set up the display for the event. The Exhibit will be up all day with a get-together with some of the artists from 5 to 8pm that evening. Then, after the show, the cards will be auctioned on eBay with the proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society.
Cancer has touched the lives and families of so many artists and writers, faced with fighting this terrible disease. So, consider taking the time to illustrate a few cards for a good cause. Blue Line is supplying the sketch cards for the show and will mail blank cards to artists upon request to illustrate for this event.
The cards can feature most any characters (including your own) with some exceptions on licensed properties such as Star Wars.
For more information to contact Comics2Games at (859) 647-7568 you can contact Jeremy Bell at jeremyb@comics2cars.com on how you or an artist you know can participate in the event for this worthy cause!
Pass the word along to all the message boards, groups, bulletin boards and other outlets you know. Help the fight against cancer and participate in this sketch card event!
Website Administrator Mike Gagnon will be on a temporary hiatus from his editorial duties until August 1st 2007.
Mike is using this time to concentrate on career and family.
We appreciate your interest and encourage you to continue visiting and writing in with e-mnails and submissions.
New Changes in Policy
Thanks to the enthusiasm from our readers, we may have to give in and make a change in policy.
This website was originally founded on the premise that it was strictly meant to be a fun, clutter-free source of entertainment and pop culture news. The main basis of this is that the site would be free of any paid advertising or banners.
Since the launch of this website on January 11th of 207, reader response has been overwhelming. Along with that has been interest from many talented writers who want to write for the site. Originally run on little to no budget writers worked for exposure for their work.
We are looking for writers! Interested? We need people to talk about all aspects of pop culture. We want writers to review grpahic novels, comic books, movies, TV shows, etc. We want articles about the same kinds of things, entertianment, and pop culture.
If you're interested please check out our Submission Guidelines
New Website Offers Readers a Little Sex, Comics and Rock’n’Roll
Web Entrepreneur and writer launches new pop culture entertainment news site.
Monday, March 5th, 2007, Kincardine, Ontario – After almost two months in beta testing and development, new pop culture and entertainment news site, Sex, Comics and Rock’n’Roll is now live at www.sexcomicsandrocknroll.com.
“The idea came from wanting to create a news site that combines some of my favorite things, and like many other people out there my three favorite things are in fact sex, comics, and rock music. I didn’t want it to be a regular site though, I wanted it to be fun and irreverent, and a place where readers can…get accurate pop culture news…” said site owner and professional writer Mike Gagnon.
Gagnon had been working on the concept for over a year, but had it on the back burner while working as a book and comic book publisher. After Gagnon left the publishing industry in late 2006 to pursue his calling as a freelance writer he finally was able to make the time to bring his concept to life.
The thing about Sex, Comics and Rock’n’Roll that makes it unique is that there will be no paid advertising of any kind, no chat rooms or forums, and that news from undiscovered talent will be given equal consideration as large national news stories.
“I just felt that people feel they’re being sold to enough as it is everywhere else, forums often degenerate into immature public arguments, which I have no interest in providing a venue for, and that there a lot of talented people out there looking for recognition and should be given the opportunity to earn that exposure. Again it all comes back to wanting to make the site a fun reading experience without the excess clutter that is becoming all too common.” Gagnon added.
Readers are encouraged however to post comments on the news articles they read directly on the website.
The site went live on Thursday, January 11th to begin beta testing and work out any kinks before the official launch on
There are also functions where website viewers can submit news, write letters to the
Pop culture fans can find the site at http://www.sexcomicsandrocknroll.com
Interested media and writers can contact site creator Mike Gagnon at mgagnon@bmts.com or via www.sexcomicsandrocknroll.com.
Just want to shout out to the readers that a new part of Sex, Comics and Rock'n'Roll is coming soon.
Thanks for all the positive response and e-mails. Because of that positive response I have already registered the domain name www.sexcomicsandrocknroll.com and the new main page feature as part of the site will debut in a couple of weeks.
Keep an eye out for it www.sexcomicsandrocknroll.com
Thanks for all the positive response!
Hey folks! Wow! What a day. It seems that interest has taken off overnight. I've gotten several positive e-mails about the site, and a TON of news submissions.
There is a heck of a lot of news to post today and little time to do it in.
I'll get up as much as I can. Hope it won't be overwhelming for sex, comics and rock'n'roll junkies!
Thanks to everyone!
Mike
Welcome!
Thanks for coming to check out the official live launch of Sex, Comics and Rock'n'Roll.
This is a new news weblog site dedicated to bringing you accurate, fun and informative news from the world of pop culture and entertainment.
The site will be updated daily and feature press releases, articles and reviews on today's modern entertainment and pop culture scene.
We cover national and local entertainers with the same interest and consideration, something you won't find at many other entertainment news sites.
You won't find any paid ads on the website either. You hear enough of those on the radio on the drive home from work, and see enough on TV when you're watching the news. We may consider some kind of banner or ad exchange with other websites in the future, but for now we'll only be focusing on the news.
There also aren't any chat rooms, so there's no chance you'll stumble onto a page where readers argue about which Lord of the Rings movie was the best.
Of course, as the title would suggest, we cover news with a focus on Sex, Comics and Rock'n'Roll. These are things that many people find interesting and have a hard time finding enough real news to satisfy thier curiosity. We hope to fill that gap here. Even if you aren't a fan of all three, I'm sure that at least one of those subjects will peak your interest.
Writer's of any experience level, or entertainers/creators looking for more exposure, are invited and welcomed to submit press releases, articles and reviews for us to consider posting on the site. Just check out the submission guidelines.
Although we just went live today we've been testing and debugging features in Beta mode for a couple of weeks now. During that time we've posted plenty of news as well, so if you don't get enough of a fix from today's news, feel free to click the archive links and delve into our growing vault of current entertainment news.
In short, thanks for stopping by the site. We're glad you came. I hope you enjoy the news at Sex, Comics and Rock'n'Roll and tell your friends.
Best Regards,
Mike Gagnon - Site administrator
